Substance/Drug Abuse

I am a Ohio State certified Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor.  My services include drug and alcohol assessments, drug and alcohol treatment and I am able to perform drug and alcohol interventions.

"Drug abuse can be defined as the use of any chemical substances that cause physical, mental, emotional or social harm to any individual or the people close to him/her."  *ERIC Clearinghouse on Counseling and Personnel Services Ann Arbor, MI.

Symptoms of a substance abuse problem are as follows:

Increased tolerance - the need to use greater quantities of the substance to achieve the same effects

Loss of control over usage - using more than you planned

Family history - any family member with a history of drug/alcohol problems

Preoccupation - thoughts and lifestyle centered around obtaining and using the substance

Withdrawal symptoms - feeling anxious, irritable, sleep difficulty, nausea and vomiting, physical aggitation, difficulty concentrating, sweating or rapid pulse and shakiness

Concern of self - failed attempts to try to quit on your own

Concern of others about usage

Legal problems as a result of usage

Medical problems as a result of usage

Relationship problems as a result of usage

Financial problems as a result of usage
